This natural, homemade rice toner is crafted for holistic healing and radiant skin. Made with simple rice-infused water, it’s rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help soothe, brighten, and nourish the skin.

Ingredients

Rice Toner

  • ½ cup organic white rice (jasmine or any long grain)
  • 1 ½ cups distilled or filtered water
  • Optional: 5-10 drops tea tree essential oil (for acne-prone or oily skin)
  • Optional: 5-10 drops frankincense essential oil (for anti-aging and healing)

Notes:

Stronger Toner:If you want to increase the potency of your rice water, you can boil the rice water after soaking. Simmer the strained rice water for 10-15 minutes on low heat, allow it to cool completely, and then use as a more concentrated toner. Boiling helps release even more of the beneficial starches, minerals, and nutrients from the rice, resulting in a thicker, richer toner. You can dilute with distilled water if it feels too strong for your skin.

How to Ferment Rice Water: Fermenting your rice water can enhance its nutrient profile and boost its skin benefits. During fermentation, natural probiotics and enzymes develop, which may help balance the skin’s pH, improve skin texture, and increase the antioxidant content.

How to ferment it: After soaking and straining your rice water, pour it into a clean jar. Cover loosely with a lid or clean cloth (to allow airflow), and let it sit at room temperature for 24-48 hours. Once you notice a slightly sour smell, it’s ready. Transfer it to the fridge and use within 5-7 days. Always do a patch test first, as fermented rice water can be stronger.

Step by Step Instructions

Water:
Place the rice in a bowl and rinse it thoroughly with water to remove any dirt or impurities. Drain and discard the rinse water. Do this 2-3x.
Add the water + rice to a clean jar or bowl. Let it soak for 2-3 days.
Day 3:

After soaking, strain the rice water into a glass spray bottle for easy application. This is your toner base. Save Rice and use for a hair mask (also on my blog).

Customize (optional):
Once cooled, add your chosen essential oils and shake well to combine.

Bottle and store: Pour your rice toner into a clean spray bottle or glass jar. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks for maximum freshness. Shake well before each use.

Application:

How to use: After cleansing, apply the rice toner to your face using a cotton pad or spray directly onto your skin. Gently pat in and follow with your favorite moisturizer.
