This natural, homemade rice hair mask is designed for holistic healing and total hair nourishment. Made with simple rice-infused water, it delivers vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that strengthen, smooth, and add shine to your hair.

Ingredients

Rice Hair Mask

  • 1 cup organic white rice (jasmine, basmati, or long grain) ( see notes)
  • 2 cups of distilled or filtered water
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel (optional, for hydration and soothing)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil, olive oil, or sweet almond oil (optional, for deep nourishment)
  • 5-10 drops tea tree essential oil (optional, for scalp health)
  • 5-10 drops frankincense essential oil (optional, for hair growth and strengthening)

Notes:

Use Leftover Rice from Your Rice Toner:
Don’t let your soaked rice from the rice toner recipe go to waste! You can repurpose the leftover rice to make this nourishing hair mask. The rice has already begun releasing its nutrients, making it perfect for blending into a creamy, vitamin-rich mask that your hair will love.

Customize for Your Hair Needs: This mask is very flexible! You can adjust the ingredients depending on your hair’s needs. For dry or brittle hair, add more oils like coconut, olive, or sweet almond oil for extra moisture. For scalp issues or dandruff, include tea tree essential oil. For promoting growth and scalp health, frankincense is a great addition.

Step by Step Instructions

Note:

Use leftover rice (or start fresh):
If you previously made rice toner, you can use the leftover soaked rice for this hair mask to avoid waste and get the full benefit of the rice. If not, start with new rice.

Rinse (if starting fresh):
Place the rice in a bowl and rinse thoroughly to remove any dirt or impurities. Drain and discard the rinse water.

Cook or blend the rice:
For a thicker hair mask, lightly boil or steam the rice until soft. Once cooled, blend the rice with a bit of water (just enough to create a creamy paste consistency).

Add nourishing ingredients:
Mix the rice paste with aloe vera gel, your choice of nourishing oil, and essential oils. Stir or blend again to fully combine into a smooth mask.

Apply:
On clean, damp hair, apply the mask from scalp to ends, gently massaging it into your scalp and working it through your hair.

Leave on:
Cover your hair with a shower cap or towel and let sit for 20-45 minutes to deeply nourish and strengthen the hair.

Rinse thoroughly:
Rinse out the mask completely with lukewarm water. Follow with your regular shampoo and conditioner if needed
